Fenchurch 3C Housing Development

Project Summary (August 2016 - August 2017)

This is was the first block of 10 2- storey units in a brown filed regeneration project of a brown field. The project was a design and build project by Mike Greer Homes (MGH), and my company Construcure were contracted to carry out the structural engineering for the project.

The buildings are light weight timber framed superstructure founded reinforced concrete waffle foundations.

The structural system employed are Steel portal frames and GIB timber panels to resist earthquake and wind loads, and a combination of timber and steel framing to resist gravitational dead and live loads.

My responsibility

I was the structural engineer responsible for the structural design and construction monitoring, and main point of contact for all things structural engineering from foundation to roof during the construction phase of the project.

Key Skills Deployed

  1. Stakeholder management: managing expectations of the developer MGH in regards to time frame and costs.

  2. Communication: detailing all site inspections and instructions in site reports and email correspondences, and verbally communicating with builders my site instructions and seeking to understand their challenges. Communicating with council on issues around wall cladding overhangs at bottom to avoid durability issues such as moisture capillary effects.

  3. Structural design: reinforced concrete masonry walls serving as fire walls, reinforced concrete ground bridging beams and piles over service pipes, using software as MS Excel and Tekla TEEDS to NZ design codes.

  4. Project management: managing my time across various aspects of this project and other projects I was involved in.

  5. Quality Control: Ensuring that all consented plans and specifications are properly translated on site; from fire walls details, to foundation bridging details e.t.c.
